Velia VIDAL

vidal-velia

She loves reading with others and for others, and feels that El Chocó, particularly Bahía Solano, is her place in the world. This perhaps explains what has made her the founder and director of the Motete cultural and educational organization, which works to close gaps in El Chocó region, through the creation of events at cultural and educational spaces linked to art, reading and gastronomy. Motete organizes the El Chocó Reading and Writing Festival (FLECHO), which has hosted major Colombian authors and has gained the involvement of over ten thousand visitors in Quibdó, Bahía Solano and Istmina. She was a fellow of the Pacific diploma in Creative Writing, run by the Instituto Caro y Cuervo and the Fondo Acción, for which she wrote the children’s story “Bajo el yarumo”, which was published in the book Maletín de relatos pacíficos. In 2019 she took part in the artistic project Al otro lado del Istmo, run by Magdalena Wallport and Elkin Calderón, as part of which she wrote a text that was published in the book Oír somos río. Her most recent book is Aguas de estuario (2021).
