Manuel “Manny” Medrano (USA) studied Applied Mathematics at the University of Harvard, making progress in the deciphering of six quipus, knotted cords used in the pre-Hispanic era to register numerical and narrative information. Medrano currently works as a researcher in the Department of Social Anthropology at St Andrews University (Scotland), where he continues to apply quantitative methods to deciphering knotted Andean primary sources. His new book, Quipus: Mil años de historia anudada en los Andes y su futuro digital, will be published in Lima by Planeta this year.
