Ruvén Afanador (1959) is a Colombian photographer, born in Bucaramanga, who became an American citizen when he moved to the US with his family aged 14. He taught himself the basics of his profession, and his visual language reveals a characteristically Latin American viewpoint. His creativity and vision have brought him work with major publications including New York Magazine, Elle, Vogue, Rolling Stone and others. He has taken portraits of important figures in US politics and theatre, and his career takes him between New York, his main place of residence, and Colombia. After spending more than half his life outside his country of origin, it is important for Afanador to contribute to Colombia’s cultural capital and he is working on a number of projects in the country.
