Juan Carlos FLÓREZ

florez-juan-carlos Juan Carlos Flórez Arcila (Bogota, 1962). Historian and writer. He has been involved in Colombian politics for decades, beginning as an advisor to the Constituent Assembly in 1991. He has specialized in urban development, citizen culture and political control in Bogota, and is known for his work in the Colombian media. He is currently a columnist with Semana magazine. He has been recognized on a number of occasions as an outstanding Bogota city councilor. He has lectured at El Rosario University, Bogota’s Pontificia Universidad Javeriana and the National University of Colombia. He was also Head of the History Department at the University of the Andes. At the end of the 1990s he promoted the creation of permanent cycle lanes, later dubbed ciclorrutas. He has also published a great many columns, articles and studies on urban management in Colombian and international publications. He is the author of the book Los que sobran (2021).
