Dr. Miguel Alcubierre Moya is a physicist from UNAM and has a PhD in physics from the University of Wales in Cardiff, UK. He worked for several years at the Max Planck Institute researching Gravitational Physics in Potsdam, Germany. Since 2002 he has been a Senior Researcher at the Institute of Nuclear Sciences at UNAM, and from 2012 to 2020 he served as its director. His area of research is Einstein’s theory of General Relativity, in particular, the computational simulation of black holes and gravitational wave sources. He is the author of more than 50 publications, as well as a textbook published by Oxford University Press. He is a member of the National System of Researchers and the Mexican Academy of Sciences. In 2009 he received the “Medalla al Mérito en Ciencias” awarded by the Asamblea Legislativa del Distrito Federal, in 2011 he received the “Mentes Quo-Discovery” awarded by the magazine Quo and the Discovery Channel, and in 2018 he was recognised by the magazine Quién as one of the 50 people who are transforming Mexico.
