Juan Esteban Lewin was born in Bogotá in 1979. He studied Law and History and later did a master's degree in Latin American Studies. After being a public official, school teacher, lawyer, translator and researcher, he joined the ranks of journalism in 2010. He worked at La Silla Vacía as a journalist, general editor, managing director and editorial director. Individually or in teams, he has been part of the official selection for the Gabriel García Márquez Prize on three occasions and, with a team from La Silla Vacía, he won it in 2021. Since August 2022 he has been editor-in-chief of El País América Colombia.
