Rafael Gonzalez Hernandez is a Physicist from the Universidad Pedagógica y Tecnológica de Colombia, with a Master's degree and PhD in Physical Sciences from the National University of Colombia. During his undergraduate studies in physics he received an honours degree, and during his master's and doctoral studies he was awarded a meritorious mention for his thesis work. He has a postdoctoral research stay at the University of Mainz (Germany) supported by the German Alexander Von Humboldt Foundation. He has received awards such as: the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World (TWAS) prize for young Colombian scientists in the field of Physics and the Medal of Scientific Merit from the University of the North. He is a corresponding member of the Colombian Academy of Exact Physical and Natural Sciences. He has published more than 50 articles in international scientific journals, including Science Advance, Physical Review Letters and PNAS. He is currently a full professor in the Department of Physics and Geosciences at the University of the North with interests in condensed matter physics and its computational tools.
