Colombian writer born in Pitalito Huila, in 1966. He studied literature at the National Pedagogical University of Colombia and the Central University of Bogota. He is the author of 23 children’s literature titles published by the Loqueleo, SM, Panamericana, Norma and Educar companies. His books are published in Colombia, Mexico, Ecuador, Cuba and Chile. Winner of the 1998 Fomcultura Prize for Children’s Literature, the 2005 National Prize for Children’s Literature, the 2006 Latin American Prize for Youth Literature, the 2011 Barco de Vapor Prize, recognised by the German White Ravens list in 2013, shortlisted for the Latin American 2016 Norma Award, Highly Recommended by Fundalectura and the on the IBBY Honour List, Greece, 2018. His titles are: Danilo danilero cabeza de velero, Un amigo para Alejandro, Tato tiene novia, Los chicos malos tienen buenas historias, El gato Pascuato, Carmen dijo que sí, Lilo Cocodrilo, Los colores del grillo, El regalo de Pipe, Quince muñequitas de trapo, Una bicicleta de tres puestos, La luna en los almendros, El rojo era el color de mamá, Pancho cada vez más ancho, El último viaje de Bashir and Bajo la luna de mayo, among others. He currently divides his time between his job as a writer and as a children’s teacher at the public high school in Pitalito Huila, his hometown.
