Laura AGUIRRE

aguirre-laura Laura Aguirre is the Director of the El Salvador-based feminist digital media outlet, Alharaca, and she is the Sembramedia organization's Financial Coordinator. Her career has been dedicated to academia and journalism. She has a doctorate in Sociology from the Free University of Berlin, specialising in issues related to women's migration and sex work. In February 2018, she co-founded Alharaca and since then she has been the author or editor of several journalism projects and has specialized in the application of the feminist perspective to journalism. In recent years she has also turned her interest to the topic of the sustainability and viability of independent media, and she mentors women entrepreneurs in the media. She entered journalism as a columnist for the digital newspaper elfaro.net in 2011. Her work has been published with El Faro, Univisión and Open Democracy. In 2017, she won the Latin American COLPIN award for investigative journalism. That same year she won the IDEA award for innovation in journalism, with the transmedia project Sexo SinVergüenzas.
