LAS ESTRELLAS DEL CARIBE

las-estrellas-del-caribe Las Estrellas del Caribe (The Caribbean Stars) from San Basilio de Palenque, Colombia -first free people from slavery in America-, is a traditional band formed in the mid-seventies by Leonel Torres and several friends who meet and grow up around the "Picó" rhythms and the African music that arrived in Palenque. Since then, they have begun to create a unique sound and style in Colombia that fuses Palenque's ancestral music -their songs and traditional instruments- with the modern sounds of Africa such as Soukous, Highlife, Mbquanga, among others. This is what made them pioneers of what now is known as "Criolla Therapy" or Champeta "Roots". In the mid-eighties they recorded four tracks for Felito Records in Barranquilla. These long plays are now dispute by collectors from all over the world, which contain great hits such as Yoyó, Sambingo, Kunchuzo. In 2015 they released their first album Champeta criolla de San Basilio de Palenque and since then the group has had various presentations and national tours. In 2023 they performed their first international concert in the city of Berlin, in the majestic Haus der Kulturen der Welt (HKW).
