Kent Francis JAMES

(San Andrés, Colombia, 1950) Law graduate with a specialization in Public Law from the Open University of Colombia (1975), he ran the San Andrés Isla Cultural Centre from 1978 to 1984. In the political sphere, he was part of the Movimiento Amplio de Reivindicación, and became the first Governor of the Archipiélago Province with the 1991 constitution. He has been Ambassador of Colombia to the United Nations, Belize and Jamaica, and currently serves as concurrent Ambassador to the English-speaking countries of the Caribbean, and Colombian representative to the Seabed Authority (Kingston), the Association of Caribbean States (Port of Spain) and Caricom (Georgetown). He also chairs the Green Moon Festival Foundation, and is part of the Raizal Team that has supported the defence of the Raizal people of the islands against Nicaragua's demands before the International Court of Justice in The Hague.
“We want to be Colombians but in our own way, in the island way, with our roots, with our culture,” he said before the President of the Republic at the 1980 National Governmental Summit.
