Mugambi is an actor, writer and director working on the stage and screen. His career began in Nairobi's theatre scene in the early 2000's. After completing his postgrad studies in the US, he joined the Philadelphia theatre industry, appearing in original and adapted works in independent theatres, and telling stories in the city’s Historic District. He returned to Kenya and featured in the acclaimed films Nairobi Half Life (2012) and Stories of our Lives (2015). In the early 2010s he co-created the musical TV series Groove Theory, and went on to co-write the award-winning feature films Kati Kati (2016) and Supa Modo (2018). He had his film directorial feature film debut with Lusala (2019), and co-wrote and directed the acclaimed stage show Too Early For Birds: Mboya (2019 and 2024), for which he won a Kenya Theatre Award for Best Director (2025). He has also directed the mental health focused stage play The Manic Monologues and performed the one-person play Every Brilliant Thing, for which he won a Kenya Theatre Award in 2024. He is Executive Producer of the youth drama series TUKI?, and is a member of Kenya’s premier improv comedy group Because You Said So, which puts on live shows every two months.
