She holds a degree and a PhD in History from the University of Malaga. She is a career civil servant in the Faculty Corps of State Archivists and Librarians (Archives Section). She has recently been the Manager of the General Archive of the Indies. She has served as Director of the Provincial Historical Archive of Cordoba, Director of the Archive of the Provincial Delegation of the Ministry of Finance in Cordoba, Head of the General Archive of Andalusia, and General Manager of the Provincial Historical Archive of Malaga. She has served as Head of the Research Service of the Andalusian Regional Government and Secretary of the Andalusian Research Plan. She was Head of the Research and Dissemination Service of the Board of Trustees of the Alhambra and Generalife and has also been Secretary and President of the Architectural Archives Section of the International Council on Archives (ICA/SAR). She has been a member of the Evaluation Committee (ECOM) of the International Council on Archives, where she is now serving as President. She is the recipient of the 1989 Málaga de Investigación Award in the Humanities section. She has also been awarded the Cruz del Mérito Militar, First Class; the Cruz del Mérito Naval; the Medal of the Ateneo de Málaga, awarded in 2021; and the Caleta Prize from the Malaga Council in 2023. She is also a Knight of the Order of Arts and Literature, awarded by the French Government in 2023.
