Sofía ROMO SAAVEDRA

Born in Mexico City in 2005, Sofía Romo is a children’s illustrator with more than 20 published works since 2021. Notable works that feature her illustrations include Unidas ante el volcán de fuego (presented at the 2023 Guadalajara International Book Fair), Xochimilco entre besos de tradiciones, the poetry collection Poeticuentos de fábula and the book Soy cambio, soy yo (2026). She also designed the cover and interior illustrations for Nunca más las olvidadas, which has enjoyed great success in Queretaro. Winner of the Second State Youth Literature Competition in 2020 with El globo que quería ver el mundo, Sofía has forged a strong relationship with the publisher Letra Capital and the Ministry of Culture: she won twice in their Cajas de Agua competition with Peces en la Luna y otros cuentos para compartir and Asuntos de duendes —presented at the Hay Festival Queretaro 2025/2026 and the FIL Guadalajara— and took part in their Aullar Sin Ruido competition with the short story Memorias de un olvidado. At the same time, she is studying animation and VFX, having made eight short films; the animated film Tapar los ojos won the 2025 Transparencia en Corto competition, and the live-action film Muñecas de papel won the Audience Award at CINEDOT.
