Marina DE TAVIRA

A Mexican stage, film and television actress, she has primarily worked on stage at the national theatre, starring in plays by authors such as Bertolt Brecht, Harold Pinter, David Mamet, Ximena Escalante, David Hevia, Nina Raine, Tennessee Williams and Marina Carr. She has been nominated by various theatre journalists' associations in Mexico and, along with Enrique Singer, founded Incidente Teatro, a company with which she has produced plays such as Tragaluz, El Río, Traición, Crímenes del Corazón, La Mujer Justa, La Anarquista, Obsesión, Consentimiento, and La niña en el altar. In film, she has worked with renowned directors such as Issa López, Rodrigo Plá, Carlos Carrera, Mariana Chenillo, Hari Sama, Alfonso Cuarón, Katina Medina Mora, Lisa Joy and Celina Murga. She was nominated for an Oscar in 2019 for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Sofia in Roma, a role for which she also won the Ariel Award for Best Supporting Actress. She was the Mexican voice of the musical Blindness, which received a Metropolitan Award. Her most recent television work is the bilingual Apple TV+ series Now and Then. She was recently nominated for Best Actress at the Metropolitan Awards for her portrayal of Blanche DuBois in A Streetcar Named Desire, and at the ACPT Awards for her role as Clytemnestra in La niña en el altar.
