Dayro CARRASQUILLA

Born in 1982 in the Nelson Mandela area of Cartagena, Dayro Carrasquilla is a visual artist whose work stems from an ethnographic perspective of his territory, specifically the Nelson Mandela neighbourhood. A Master of Fine Arts and a doctoral candidate in Education, he addresses the tensions of the urban periphery —repression, dehumanization, territory and female resistance— in his work, using recycled materials and media such as video art, photography and installations. Among his most representative works are “Mandela”, “Barrio Abajo”, and “La Mondá”, all centred on collective memory and community resilience. He has exhibited at national and international venues, won awards such as the Sara Modiano Prize, and served as a National Advisor for Visual Arts. In addition to his artistic practice, he leads community workshops and works as a teacher, consolidating an art committed to social transformation and the empowerment of marginalized communities.
