Elaine Vilar Madruga (Havana, 1989). Storyteller, poet and playwright. She is regarded as one of the most important literary voices in contemporary Cuba and the Caribbean, and one of the most significant authors of the new generation of Latin American writers. She is a teacher of music and creative writing, a multidisciplinary artist, a publisher and a literary coach. She has a degree in Theatre, specialising in Playwriting, from the Higher Institute of Art (ISA). She has won over a hundred national and international awards. She is the founder and director of the online school of creative thinking, the Encrucijada Writing Laboratory, whose main goal is to help make publishing more professional and open up new creative opportunities for artists living in countries with non-hegemonic cultural industries. She has published over fifty books with publishers in the United States, Canada, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Spain, Chile, France, Italy, Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Denmark, Panama, Brazil, Russia and Egypt, including the novel Salomé (La Pollera, Chile, 2018), the poetry collection Sakura (Libero, Spain, 2021; Desbordes, Chile, 2016) and the children’s novel Un globo rojo en tu ventana (Edebé, Mexico, 2021). She writes in the genres of novel, short story, poetry, fantasy and science fiction, journalism, criticism, theatre, and literature for children and young adults.
