Shaun Walker is an international correspondent for The Guardian. He spent more than a decade working from Russia and is the author of two books: The Long Hangover: Putin's New Russia and the Ghosts of the Past (2018) which explores historical memory in Russia and Ukraine, and The Illegals: Russia's Most Audacious Spies and their Century-long Mission to Infiltrate the West (2025) which is a history of Russia's deep-cover espionage programme. He has been covering the war in Ukraine since 2014, and now splits his time between Warsaw, Kyiv and London.
