A founding member (1971) and current director of the Yuyachkani Cultural Group, he champions a form of theatre rooted in creation and research based on material generated by the actors. He holds an honorary doctorate from the Higher Institute of Art at the University of Havana, Cuba (2010), and received the 2019 National Culture Award in the Lifetime Achievement category from Peru's Ministry of Culture, among other honours. He directs performance interventions, plays and collaborative creations. His work is grounded in the study of Peruvian culture and its application to contemporary artistic expression.
