From the La Colonia native community on the Ampiyacú River in Loreto, Peru, he belongs to the Uitota and Cocama Indigenous nations, of the Aimenɨ (“White Heron”) Clan. He is a visual artist, curator and activist advocating for the rights and respect of Indigenous cosmologies and knowledge. Since 2003, he has held solo and group exhibitions in museums and art galleries across Latin America, North America, Europe and Asia. He has won awards including Best Curatorial Team at the 17th Cuenca Biennial (Ecuador); the First Carlota Carvallo de Núñez National Children's and Young Adult Literature Competition (Lima, Peru); the 9th Central Reserve Bank National Painting Contest (Lima, Peru); and the 2nd Intercontinental Biennial of Indigenous Art (Quito, Ecuador). His published works include JUMA. Preservar la memoria. Imaginar el futuro, El sueño de Buinaima, Fídoma y el bosque de estrellas, Las aves y sus colores and El verano y la lluvia. He contributes articles on Indigenous art to books and magazines. His recent curatorial projects have been presented at the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid, the University of Lima Cultural Centre and the Inca Garcilaso de la Vega Cultural Centre in Lima. He participated in the 60th Venice Biennale —held from April 20 to November 24, 2024—, under the title and theme Stranieri Ovunque – Foreigners Everywhere curated by Adriano Pedrosa. His works are held in public and private collections.
