From Cochabamba, Bolivia, this novelist and screenplay writer is the author of the novels El lugar del cuerpo (2007), Los afectos (2015), and Los años invisibles (2019), as well as the non-fiction collections Las palabras (2016) and Los murmullos (2024), among others. In 2007, he was selected by the Hay Festival for Bogotá39 as one of the 39 best Latin American writers under 40, and in 2010, he was named one of Granta’s Best Young Spanish-Language Novelists. As a screenplay writer, he won the Best Screenplay Award at the Tribeca Film Festival for El visitante (2022), co-written with filmmaker Martín Boulocq. His short stories have been published in Granta, McSweeney’s, Zoetrope: All-Story, Words Without Borders, and elsewhere, and his work has been translated into twelve languages.
