Elif Shafak is one of Turkey's most acclaimed and outspoken novelists and was prosecuted under Turkey's notorious penal code for insulting Turkishness. She has written seven novels and a work of non fiction. Her last novel, THE BASTARD OF ISTANBUL was longlisted for the Orange prize. Elif teaches at the University of Arizona and divides her time between the US and Istanbul.
