ospina-william Born in 1954 in Padua, Tolima. He is one of the most important Colombian writers on the global literary scene. He is the author of numerous books of poetry, including Hilo de Arena, La luna del dragón, El país del viento (National Poetry Prize awarded by the Colombian Institute of Culture). His columns and essays have made his country think; a selection of the most important would include Los nuevos centros de la esfera (Ezequiel Martínez Estrada Essay Prize awarded by Casa de las Américas, Havana), Es tarde para el hombre, ¿Dónde está la franja amarilla?, Las auroras de sangre, La decadencia de los dragones, América mestiza, La escuela de la noche, Pa que se acabe la vaina and El dibujo secreto de América Latina. His first novel, Ursúa, is the first in a trilogy about the conquest, which continues with El País de la Canela (2008 Rómulo Gallegos Prize) and ends with La serpiente sin ojos. He has also published El año del verano que nunca llegó (Penguin Random House, 2015) and his sixth novel, Guayacanal (2019).
