Malcolm OTERO BARRAL

otero-barral-malcolm (Spain, 1973) Malcolm Otero Barral started his career as an editor working at small Madrid publishers, and later worked as an editor with Ediciones del Bronce and Columna Edicions. During this time, he published Jhumpa Lahiri, Dave Eggers and Jonathan Franzen for the first time. He also published the work of Gao Xingjian and Coetzee, both winners of the Nobel Prize for Literature). He moved to Ediciones Destino as Head of the Fiction Department, bringing in Harold Pinter, Yann Martel, Eduardo Lago, David Bezmozgis, Pedro Zarraluki, Felipe Benítez Reyes, Antonio Soler and Andrés Trapiello. In 2007 he moved to RBA Libros as Spanish Fiction Editor. Other authors that he has published include Jordi Soler, Cristina Grande, José Jiménez Lozano, Marta Sanz, Ignacio Martínez de Pisón and Manuel de Lope. He also edited Juan José Saez and Alberto Manguel during this period. In 2008, he created a new publishing house with Joan Barril, Barril & Barral. Currently he is editor in Malpaso Ediciones.
