Javier MORENO BARBER

moreno-barber-javier (Paris, 1963) Spanish journalist. Chemistry graduate from the University of Valencia with a Master’s in Journalism from the Autonomous University of Madrid and El País. In 1994 he joined the economic section of this newspaper, and was later appointed Chief Writer of the paper’s Mexican edition. In 2002 he became the Berlin correspondent and in 2003 Head Editor of Prisa’s economics newspaper Cinco Días. In 2006 Moreno became the fourth ever Editor-in-Chief of El País. During those years, the paper published international exclusives, including the case of the US State Department’s telegrams, along with newspapers such as The New York Times and The Guardian; and Chinaleaks, as well as many national exclusives, such as the Bárcenas case. In 2013, the newspaper’s American edition was founded. After leaving his post in 2014, Moreno became the founding editor of the Leading European Newspaper Alliance (LENA), a group of seven major European newspapers. He managed the UAM-EL PAÍS School of Journalism between December 2017 and June 2018, when he became editor of El País América. Between 2020 and 2021 he has director of El País.
