Ian BLAIR

Sir Ian Blair is one of the UK’s most informed commentators on strategic policing and security, leadership and change management. His extensive experience in policing and counter-terrorism spans more than 34 years, including nine years as the Deputy Commissioner (2000 to 2005) and then Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police (2005-2008). During these years, he was instrumental in the transformation of the police workforce through the introduction of Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs), the largest ever expansion of community policing in London, together with significantly increased minority recruitment.

In 2009, Sir Ian published his autobiography, Policing Controversy. Today, he is an informative and engaging speaker and writer with his passionate views and expertise widely sought by media and decision-makers in policing, business and academia. Oxford-educated himself, he holds honorary positions at several Oxford colleges and in 2010 became co-director of a training programme for senior police executives in India, led by the University of Cambridge’s Institute of Criminology.
