Simon Bartram graduated from Birmingham Polytechnic with a First
Class degree in illustration in 1990, and his art style is heavily
influenced by such artists as Peter Blake, Peter Howson, Stanley
Spencer and Reg Cartwright.
Simon has produced work for ES Magazine, The Independent on
Sunday and Faber & Faber. His stylised drawings, which rely on
exaggerated proportions, distortion and strong lighting, are proving
popular with modern advertising.
Simon would like to work in all areas of his craft, but he particularly
likes illustrating children’s stories. His retelling of the children’s classic
Pinocchio was runner up for the 1999 Mother Goose Award.
Titles for Templar include a fun-packed poetry title Watch Out for
Sprouts and the hugely successful Dougal’s Deep-Sea Diary and Man
on the Moon , winner of the Blue Peter Book of the Year Award. Bob,
the Man on the Moon, has also appeared in The Alien-Spotter’s
Handbook and in the recently published picture book sequel Bob’s
Best Ever Friend.
Bob & Barry’s Lunar Adventures is a new series of young reader books
by Simon, with the first title, The Disappearing Moon published in
September 2009 and the second, ‘A Right Royal Disaster’ in February
2010.
Simon lives in Newcastle-upon-Tyne with his wife and their young
son.
