(Kabul, Afghanistan) An Afghan born Pakistani poetess and writer. She completed a B. A. in Middle Eastern studies at Columbia University, and received a master’s degree in South Asian Studies from the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London. In 2010 she published Songs of Blood and Sword, the story of politics in Pakistan and her father Murtaza’s life and murder. She published her debut novel, The Shadow of the Crescent Moon, three years later. Set in Pakistan's tribal region it was longlisted for the Bailey's Prize.
