Juan José Millás (Valencia, 1946) is a Spanish writer and journalist. His work has been translated into over 20 languages and has won a number of major awards. Outstanding books from his oeuvre include Cerbero son las sombras (1975, Sésamo Prize), Visión del ahogado (1977), El jardín vacío (1981), Papel mojado (1983), Letra muerta (1984), Tonto, muerto, bastardo e invisible (1995), El desorden de tu nombre (1987), La soledad era esto (1990, Nadal Prize), Volver a casa (1990), El orden alfabético (1998), No mires debajo de la cama (1999), Dos mujeres en Praga (2002, Primavera Prize), La ciudad (2005), Laura y Julio (2006), El mundo (2007, Planeta Prize and National Fiction Prize), Lo que sé de los hombrecillos (2010), La mujer loca (2014), Mi verdadera historia (2017), Que nadie duerma (2018), From the Shadows (2019) and La vida contada por un sapiens a un neandertal (2020) together with Juan Luis Arsuaga. He has also published short stories and collections of articles. He is a regular contributor to El País, where his columns and articles stand out not only for their social commitment, but for their subtlety, irony and originality. He also contributes regularly to the Cadena SER programme, A vivir. As well as the awards already mentioned, he has won the Mariano de Cavia, Miguel Delibes, Francisco Cerecedo, Vázquez Montalbán and Don Quijote prizes for his work as a journalist.
