Antonio Lazcano Araujo is a Mexican biologist who for nearly fifty years has been studying the origin and evolution of life at UNAM. He is the author of several books, including El Origen de la Vida, La Bacteria Prodigiosa, Tres Ensayos Darwinistas and La Chispa de la Vida. The study of RNA, a molecule that is believed to have appeared before DNA, led him and his group to study the evolution of SARS CoV 2, the virus that causes CoVid 19, in order to understand the characteristics of the pathogen. He has received three honorary doctorates (one from the University of Milan, Italy, another from the University of Valencia in Spain, and another from Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo). In 2017 he entered the National College.
