The writer Fernando Savater was a Philosophy Lecturer for over 30 years, and has written over 50 books of philosophical, political and literary essays, as well as fiction and drama. He has been given honorary doctorates from various universities in Spain, Europe and the Americas, and has received awards such as the Spanish Order of Constitutional Merit and the Mexican Águila Azteca, and was made a Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters by the French Government. He has been part of various civic movements working against terrorist violence in the Basque Country. He won the Mediterranean Culture Prize in 2014 and the Eulalio Ferrer International Prize in 2015. His work has been translated into over 20 languages.
