(Jordan, 1959) This Lebanese writer uses the English language for his work. Born to Lebanese Druze parents, he grew up in Kuwait and the Lebanon. He graduated as an engineer from the University of California in Los Angeles (UCLA) and did a Master’s in Business Studies in San Francisco but soon left the business world. After spending some years as a painter, he discovered his true vocation as a writer. He published his first novel in 1988, Koolaids: The Art of War, but first earned critical acclaim in 2008 for Hakawati which has been translated into ten languages, including Spanish. In 2012 he published his latest novel which will be released in English as The Unnecessary Woman. Alameddine contributes to a number of publications, including the magazine Zoetrope and the newspapers Los Angeles Times, Corriere della Sera and Al-Hayat. He currently lives between Beirut and San Francisco.
