(Spain, 1949) A writer, literary critic and winner of the 2007 National Criticism Prize. He studied Modern and Contemporary History in Madrid. He worked for the magazine Sobremesa, which specialises in food&drink and travel. He has written a number of novels, including
Mimoun (1988);
La larga marcha (1996) which won the SWR-Bestenliste Prize;
Los viejos amigos, winner of the Cálamo Award’s Book of the Year in 2003;
Crematorio (2007), National Critics’ Prize and the Dulce Chacón Prize; and his latest novel,
En la orilla, published in 2013. He is also the author of a varied body of essays such as
El viajero sedentario (2004) and
Por cuenta propia (2010).
