(United States, 1950) Activist who won the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize for her work supporting the prohibition of anti-personnel mines and the work done to clear them. Since 2006 Jody Williams has run the Nobel Women’s Initiative, a platform made up of female Nobel laureates such as Wangari Maathai and Rigoberta Menchu, and which works to increase the power and visibility of women in countries around the world who struggle for peace, justice and equality. In 2013 she published her autobiography My Name is Jody Williams: A Vermont Girl’s Winding Path to the Nobel Peace Prize.
