(United Kingdom) A Scottish writer whose first novel, Trainspotting (1993), was an extraordinary success, as was its adaptation to film directed by Danny Boyle. Welsh left his studies aged 16, working in a number of different trades and moved to London to be a part of the punk scene there. At the end of the 1980 she returned to Scotland where he was employed by the Edinburgh District Council while studying at Heriot-Watt University and working on his writing. He has published a number of other successful novels, such as Filth (1998), Glue(2001), Porno (2002) and Skagboys (2013).
