(Thourne, Switzerland, 1971) Writer and dramatist. He has worked in jobs as varied as tobacco farmer, gardener and scrap merchant. Before he became a professional writer he worked in a bookshop and trained as a bookseller. He is one of the founding members, together with Samuel Schwarz, of the theatre company 400asa. His work The Sexual Neuroses of our Parents has become an international success, and has been translated into a dozen languages since being published in 2005. He works with Bochum Theatre, the Thalia Theatre in Hamburg, Munich’s Kammerspiele and the Deutsches Theater in Berlin. As well as writing for theatre, Bärfuss has published two novels, One Hundred Days (2008) and Koala (2014). He currently lives and works in Zurich.
