Brigitte Baptiste was born in Bogota on 23 October, 1963. She studied Biology at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana (1988), where she lectured for over 15 years. She is a recognized and respected public figure, and she has used her high profile to raise awareness of environmental matters, and also to propose debates with a gender perspective among the public. She worked for over 20 years at the Alexander von Humboldt Biological Resource Research Institute, and was the institute’s head for almost a decade. Since 2019 she has been the Rector of the EAN University in Bogota and co-Chair of the IPBES global assessment of biodiversity values.
