Her fictional work includes the short stories included in the collections Las Infantas and Avidez, and five novels –Póstuma, Cercada, Fruta podrida, Seeing Red and Nervous System– translated into twelve languages. She has also written books of non-fiction, Viajes virales and Zona ciega, as well as a long essay on a personal theme Palestina en pedazos (an extended version of her previous Volverse Palestina), the lyrical essay Palestina por ejemplo, and the diatribe Contra los hijos. The book Ensayo General is a compilation of her shorter essays, and she has also written for the stage, with an adaptation, Un lugar donde caerse muerta, and a work of original drama, Esa cosa animal. She has received the following prizes and awards: the Metropolis Azul (Canada 2023), Cálamo (Spain 2016), Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz (Mexico 2012), Anna Seghers (Berlin 2011) and also these writing fellowships: the Guggenheim Foundation (USA 2004), the NEA (USA 2010), the DAAD (Germany 2017), and the Casa Cien Años de Soledad (Mexico 2021), and others. She teaches creative writing at the Universidad del Norte (Colombia) and the University of New York (USA).
