She has received the Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz (Mexico, 2012) and Anna Seghers (Berlin, 2011) literary prizes, as well as writing scholarships from the Guggenheim Foundation (2004) and the National Endowment for the Arts (2010). She currently teaches Latin American culture at New York University and runs the independent publishing house Brutas Editoras.
