Born in Medellin, Colombia, in 1959, where he studied Engineering at the University of Medellin. In 1979, he went to Mexico City to study Economics at UNAM and started working in El Juglar bookshop, where he was until 1983. He later worked at Librerías Gandhi until 1985. He moved to Barcelona in 1986 where he studied Cultural Anthropology. Between 1987 and 1994 he worked at Llibrería Laia bookshop, where, from 1991, he became manager. In 1995, together with Marta Ramoneda, he founded La Central and in March 1996 opened the first shop on Calle Mallorca. This was followed by La Central del Raval (2003), La Central del Reina Sofía (2005), La Central del MUHBA (2008) and La Central de Callao (2012). He is a founding member of Editorial Àrcadia (www.arcadia-editorial.com), and also works on the La Maleta de Portbou magazine. He participates as an educator on the Master’s degree in Publishing at the UPF Barcelona School of Management and on the Seminario di perfezionamento at the Scuola per Librai Umberto e Elisabeta Mauri, in Venice, Italy. In 2016 he was appointed Vice-President of the Barcelona Council for Culture, an advisory and citizen participation body of Barcelona City Council.
