Ellah WAKATAMA

Ellah is Editor at Large for Canongate Books and co-founder of Pfumo Collective. She is Chair of the Caine Prize for African Writing. Formerly Deputy Editor of Granta magazine and Editor at Large for Granta Books, she was the founding Publishing Director of The Indigo Press, and senior editor at Jonathan Cape, Random House after starting her career as Editorial Assistant then Assistant Editor at Penguin. She has served as a judge for international literary prizes including the 2017 Dublin International Literary Award and the 2015 Man Booker Prize. Her journalism has appeared in the Telegraph, Guardian, and Observer newspapers and the Spectator and Griffith Review. Her broadcasting has been featured on the BBC, NPR and Times Radio. Her non-fiction is featured in the 2019 New Daughters of Africa anthology and she is the editor of Africa39 and Safe House: Explorations in Creative Nonfiction.
