Born to Colombian parents and raised in New Jersey, Patricia Engel is currently a Professor of Creative Writing at the University of Miami. She is the author of internationally acclaimed novels such as Vida (2010), which won the Florida Book Award, the International Latino Book Award, and the Independent Publisher Book Award, among others. Her second novel, It’s Not Love, It’s Just Paris (2013) won the Elle Reader’s Prize, as well as an International Latino Book Award. Her work has been translated into several languages, and her short stories have appeared in The Atlantic, A Public Space, Boston Review, Guernica and the Harvard Review, as well as many other publications and anthologies, including The Best American Mystery Stories. Her next novel, The Veins of the Ocean, will be published in 2016.
