Kim Thúy was born in Saigon, Vietnam and as a child emigrated with her parents to Canada, due to the war. She has worked as a seamstress, interpreter and lawyer and has also run her own restaurant. Her fourth novel, Vi, is the story of a girl who learns to live during her migrations. She currently lives in Montreal and is a full-time writer.
