John Naranjo and his wife Carolina Rey are the creators of Rey Naranjo Editores. Currently, Naranjo is their editorial director. His original vocation was graphic design, and he went into publishing as the result of a desire to create his own projects. His first book as an editor, La fascinante historia de las palabras was the winner of the prize Los mejores del Banco del Libro as well as receiving acclaim from both critics and the public in Colombia. In 2014 the publishing house was awarded with the New Horizons prize at the Bologna Book Fair. His book Gabo, memorias de una vida mágica was selected for the White Ravens list for the Internationale Jugendbibliothek in Munich, Germany. Other awards include the Lápiz de Acero Azul 2013, the most prestigious design prize in Colombia; the prize for Best Publishing Design in the comics category at the Buenos Aires Book Fair, and two Excellence in Design Awards from the Society for News Design. At the 2014 Guadalajara Book Fair he presented a graphic novel about the life of Juan Rulfo, among other new works. He has two sons, who inspire his work and motivate him to continue to create and produce children’s books.
