(Lima, 1949) Short-story writer, novelist, playwright and journalist. He studied at the PUCP in Lima. He has been deputy director of the magazine Caretas, director of the magazines Jaque and Somos, general editor of Canal N, director of the TV programmes Documento and Uno más uno, and director of the Investigation Unit of the newspaper El Comercio and its cultural supplement El Dominical. His literary work includes the novels Caramelo verde (1992), Puta linda (2006), Hasta que me orinen los perros (2008) and Loreto (2014), which make up the tetralogy Cuarteto de Lima (2019), as well as his short story collections Malos modales (1994), Bicho raro (1996), Mujeres difíciles, hombres benditos (2005), Lobos solitarios y otros cuentos (2018) and Jamás en la vida (2019); his best non-fiction books include Gato encerrado (1987), El enano, historia de una enemistad (2001) and La bruja de Lima (2018). His latest books are Seis capítulos perdidos y otros extravíos (2021) and the short story Run Run. La triste y desmesurada vida de un zorro cautivo. His work, translated into several languages, was awarded the FIL Lima Literature Prize in 2018.
