Mariana DE ALTHAUS

de-althaus-mariana (Lima, Peru, 1974) Theatre director and dramatist. She took Literature at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Peru and in 2002 studied Stage Direction at La Casona in Barcelona, Spain. In Barcelona she directed her first work, En el borde, which opened in 1998 and was also staged in Buenos Aires. Suicide, the focus of the story of En el borde, would end up being one of her central concerns in this first stage of her career, and she would later take up other themes that explore the recesses of human relationships and attitudes: discrimination, family ties, motherhood and death. Her first work was followed by, among others, El viaje (2001), Los charcos sucios de la ciudad (2001, in which she acted), Tres historias de mar (2003, shown in Barcelona and part of the Festival Margaritas), Ruido (2006), El sistema solar (2012) and Padre nuestro (2013), with the last two nominated for El Comercio’s Luces Awards.
