Is a literary translator from French and Spanish with some fifty works currently published. His French authors include Michel Houellebecq, Boualem Sansal and Pierre Lemaitre, while  Spanish and Latin American authors including Pablo Picasso, Andrés Caicedo, Alonso Cueto, and Tomás González. His translations have earned him a number of prizes including the 2002 IMPAC Prize, the 2005 Independent Foreign Fiction Prize and the 2008 Scott Moncrieff Prize. He won the Premio Valle Inclán in 2012 for  Kamchatka by Marcelo Figueras and again in 2014 for The Blue Hour by Alonso Cueto. He is a three-time winner of the CWA International Dagger for novels by Pierre Lemaitre and Arturo Perez-Reverte  He has been translator in residence at the Villa Gillet in Lyons and at the Santa Maddalena Foundation in Italy.
