Enzo CORMANN

cormann-enzo

Enzo Cormann, born 1953, is a playwright, theatre director and actor, as well as a composer. Today he is one of the most outstanding authors in French theatre. Much of his work has been translated into and performed in different languages. He runs the Dramatic Writing Department at the L’Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts et Techniques du Spectacle in Lyon. His theatre is based on what has been called the humanism of the dramatic instant. At a time when the new media, so cold and uniform, are much abused, he stands for a poetic position as against an oppressive, monotonous mediatization, and infantilizing policies. Cormann appeals to a theatrical meeting, in a specific space, of actors and audience; this is a way of resisting the virtualization of the group and of exchange, of taking back the force of dramatic action which takes place at a given moment and site.
