Laura ARDILA

ardila-laura Laura Ardila Arrieta is a journalist and reporter from the Colombian Caribbean, with over 20 years of experience. She spent ten years working for La Silla Vacía, where she was General Editor. In addition, she founded and directed La Silla Caribe. She is the co-author of the books Súper poderosos (Aguilar, 2014), De vidas se hizo el conflicto (La Silla Vacía, 2015), El dulce poder (Aguilar, 2018) and Los presidenciables (Aguilar, 2022). Winner of a 2017 Simón Bolívar National Journalism Award in the Journalist of the Year category. She is also a member of the writing team of the special edition, Tierra de resistentes, shortlisted for a 2020 Gabo Award in the Coverage category. For this report, she wrote the section “El territorio indígena que ahogó la poderosa Hidroituango”. She has worked for various media outlets, including the digital outlets Vorágine and Liga Contra El Silencio, and she is a Sunday columnist for the newspaper El Espectador. She is a major writer in terms of understanding the dynamics of the centralist elites of Bogota, the political groups of the periphery, and the way power is structured in the country. She runs her YouTube channel, La Colombia Nostra, and since 2023 she has been on the board of directors of the Foundation for Press Freedom. La Costa Nostra is her first book.
