Stefanie de Velasco, born in 1978, grew up as a child of Spanish immigrants in the German Rhine Valley. She studied European Ethnology and Political Science and started her writing career as a ghostwriter. Her debut novel Tigermilch (Tigermilk), published in 2013, was widely praised and nominated for the 2015 Independent Foreign Fiction Award. It was made into a lm in 2016.
