(Lima, 1949) Studied Literature and Plastic Arts at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú and Art History at the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos. He has been publishing his comics in various newspapers and magazines since 1969. Among his most popular comics are El Cuy, Paco Yunque, Túpac Amaru, Pobre Diablo, Luchín González, La Araña No, Love Story, Kuraka… His book Para hacer comics has been the basis for hundreds of workshops in Latin American countries as well as Spain, Germany and the United States. In 1997, the University of Alcalá named him Honorary Professor of Humour. In 2022, his work El Cuy versus la pandemia won the Luces Prize of the newspaper El Comercio. He currently directs the workshop Creación de personajes, for authors participating in the 5th National Graphic Narrative Competition, organized by the Casa de la Literatura Peruana, and publishes his strip El Cuy on the internet.
